Density – The mass of a substance per unit volume
Draft (permanent mold) – A metal shape embedded in, and used to support either green or dry sand cores in the mold.
Drag – The bottom section of a flask, mold, or pattern
Draft – The angle in which a mold or pattern is designed to allow for the withdraw of sand or aluminum without distorting or tearing.
Draw – The amount of space required to remove a mold from a pattern
Drop – A substance having metallic properties and composed of two or more chemical elements of which at least one is a metal.
Elongation – Percentage material can stretch before failure
Ferrous – Containing iron.
Fillet – A strip that gives a rounded appearance where two surfaces meet.
Fin – The characteristic of some materials such as refractory cements, core plastics, vinders, and plastics to take permanent set at normal air temperatures as opposed to thermal setting.
Flask – Is used to hold sand around the pattern. Typically two halves top(cope) and bottom (drag).
Gate – A metal shape embedded in, and used to support either green or dry sand cores in the mold.
Green Sand – Molding sand mixture that has been tempered with water
Heat – A substance having metallic properties and composed of two or more chemical elements of which at least one is a metal.
